Live news: Bitcoin barely holding $80,000 ahead of Fed on Wednesday, tech earnings this week

That's about another $200 billion that won't be investing in bitcoin

Between Meta’s $95 billion share sale and Anthropic’s possible $100 billion IPO — both announced this morning — that’s about another $200 billion in capital being siphoned up by the AI boom.

Bitcoin continues to trade near $80,000, down about 2% over the weekend.

Anthropic files for IPO

The eagerly awaited IPO filing for AI giant Anthropic was finally filed minutes ago. Lead underwriters are Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley.

The company will list on the Nasdaq under the symbol “ANT.” There are no details yet on the amount to be raised or the valuation, though previous reports suggest a raise of as much as $100 billion and a $2 trillion valuation.

In the prospectus, ANT disclosed first-half revenue of $16.3 billion versus $1.2 billion one year earlier.

Quiet week for Saylor's Strategy — more STRC buybacks

Its hands mostly still tied by a weak common stock price, and a preferred stock trading below par, Strategy MSTR$139.07 added no bitcoin last week.

The company did continue to buy back its preferred stock, STRC, an additional $204.9 million, bringing total repurchases to more than $1.8 billion.

Prior to the buybacks — which started last summer — Strategy had issued about $8.6 billion in STRC.

STRC closed on Friday at $99.36.

MSTR is lower by 2% pre-market alongside bitcoin’s weekend decline back to $80,000.

Tom Lee's Bitmine holds 4.95% of ETH supply after more purchases

Bitmine BMNR$21.58 added 10,452 ether tokens last week, bringing total holdings to 6.05 million ETH worth more than $14 billion.

Led by Tom Lee, the company now holds 4.95% of the total ETH supply, with a goal of reaching 5% eventually.

Strive adds 6,182 bitcoin following SATS IPO

Matt Cole’s Strive ASST$27.27 remains one of the few bitcoin treasury companies adding sizable amounts of BTC to their balance sheets.

Following its more than $600 million IPO of preferred stock, SATS, Strive added 6,182 bitcoin last week for $511.4 million. That brought total holdings to 43,000 BTC, worth about $3.44 billion at bitcoin’s current price near $80,000.

Cash holdings rose to $504.4 million as the company built a promised reserve with which to pay dividends on the preferred stock.

ASST is lower by 2.9% pre-market alongside bitcoin’s weekend slide back to $80,000.

Meta kicks off $95 billion capital raise for AI plans

Meta META$633.55 Monday morning announced an offering of about $35 billion — roughly $22.5 billion in common stock and $12.5 billion of preferred shares.

In addition, the company plans to raise another $60 billion in an at-the-market offering of its new Class C common stock.

“AI is creating significant opportunities for Meta across its core business and new products and services,” said the company. “Meta's AI investments are already generating tangible returns through increased engagement, improved advertising performance and increased monetization. Oil tumbles and Brazil stocks plunge as markets brace for a pivotal week

Brent crude is down more than 6% from Friday’s high, trading just below $110 a barrel as hopes of a deal between the US and Iran ease fears of further escalation. The Financial Times reports that Iran is hosting officials from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey, following a visit by Qatari officials.

Brazil’s stock market fell 20% after President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva unexpectedly secured a fourth term in office. The iShares MSCI Brazil ETF is down 26% in pre-market trading.

Bitcoin is holding just above $80,000, while gold trades slightly above $4,000 an ounce. The Invesco QQQ Trust is flat in pre-market trading despite persistent concerns about the AI trade. The US Dollar Index remains firm just below 102, while the US 10-year Treasury yield sits just below 5%.

Microsoft and Amazon report quarterly earnings this week, alongside interest-rate decisions from the Federal Reserve, Bank of Japan and European Central Bank.
